New Delhi – US Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, claims that since India holds the presidency of G20, it can play an important role in ending the Ukraine conflict. Brink further said that the Ukraine conflict was adversely impacting the countries of the Global South, and India’s concern over it will create grounds for India’s role in ending the struggle. The Prime Minister of India had recently visited the United States. The Ukraine conflict was also discussed with the US President during the talks. She said that the world is aware of India’s role, the Ukraine conflict is not in the world’s interest, and it is not the time for battle. A few days ago, the spokesperson of the White House said that if India tries to end the Ukraine conflict, the US will welcome it. Against this background, the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Brink’s assurance becomes significant.

She added that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Uzbekistan last year, he said this was not the time for war. Brink revealed that the Indian Prime Minister had clarified that this issue has to be resolved through discussion and negotiation. She asserted that Prime Minister Modi’s role is appropriate as this struggle killed many people. Brink said that the consequences of the Ukraine conflict are visible beyond Ukraine’s borders.

In an online interaction with representatives of the Indian media, US Ambassador Brink underlined the importance of India’s leadership in meeting several challenges at the global level and that the Ukraine conflict was one of them. She said that India currently holds the presidency of the G20 and that India’s concept of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ underlines India’s idea to maintain an atmosphere of peace. Brink stressed that because of this, India’s stance will be very important to end this conflict. ‘India has been developing multinational cooperation through other means with organisations like G20 and Quad, and this cooperation would be important for complying with the global order and international law. Hence, there are great expectations from India, Brink said.

Besides, more than a year has passed since the Ukraine conflict began. Its adverse impacts are seen in European countries as well. Economies have been harmed, and inflation has increased. Along with this, defence-related issues have also arisen. The Biden government is being questioned in the US regarding this conflict. At such a time, the concern expressed by the US Ambassador to Ukraine that India should play an important role in ending this conflict is significant.
