Epidemic may spread across Sudan due to lack of medical facilities

Khartum: Western, Middle East and African countries have failed to broker a ceasefire between Sudan’s army and paramilitary forces. This has hindered the delivery of humanitarian aid in Sudan. Dead bodies are lying on the streets there. Thousands of dead bodies are also lying in the burial ground. If this situation persists, an epidemic will spread in Sudan, and the people there will have to face a new crisis, a United Nations organisation warns.

epidemicMoreover, the civil war in Sudan has been going on for the last 115 days. In June, the Sudanese agencies stated that 3,000 people had been killed in this conflict. Since then, the Sudanese army and paramilitary forces have stopped reporting casualties. For this reason, the number of people killed in Sudan’s civil war is expected to increase significantly. In such a situation, from May to July, more than 300 people are claimed to have died due to starvation and measles. However, concerns are being raised about the current situation in Sudan being even more dangerous.

Over 4 million people have been displaced by the conflict in Sudan, of whom nine million have fled to neighbouring countries. Among them are doctors, nurses and student doctors. For this reason, there is a shortage of doctors, nurses and other employees in the hospitals of Sudan to treat the injured.

The bodies of Sudanese civilians killed in civil war, riots and looting incidents are lying on the roadside. There is also a shortage of ambulance services to pick up these dead bodies. Meanwhile, shocking information is coming to the fore that there is no space left for the burial of dead bodies taken to the burial ground. Because of this, many dead bodies are lying in the burial ground.

Due to these reasons, an organisation associated with the United Nations has warned of a strong possibility of diseases spreading in the capital Khartoum and other parts of Sudan. As a result, besides stopping the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the mentioned organisations are expressing the need to pay special attention to providing humanitarian aid to this country.
