US warns of imposing additional tariffs on Chinese imports if no deal reached at G-20 Summit

Washington: President Trump warned, he would impose additional tariffs if an agreement is not signed during the G-20 summit. China is willing to sign the trade agreement, as its economy is already sinking, Trump added. Although China has not reacted to Trump’s statements, they did indicate that both the nations would try to find solutions to the ongoing disputes during the G-20 summit in Japan.

At the same time, Trump warned China and said, ‘If China does not sign a trade deal now, it will face dire consequences in 2020.’ However, the Chinese government lamented that the United States was adopting a unilateral stand and not considering their demands. Simultaneously, China also issued warnings to initiate action against US companies as also to restrict the supply of rare earth minerals.

Nevertheless, President Trump ignored China’s warnings and took a stern stand. He stated that the trade agreement would be in favour of the United States. The new threat concerning the G-20 summit, only adds to the US aggression. Trump said that the Chinese economy was declining and claimed that the US was in a strong position. He thus indicated that China would have to make a deal. With the threat to impose additional tariffs if an agreement was not reached, Trump has further intensified the trade war.

So far, Trump has acted on all the threats issued to China, and it appears the new threat would also become a reality soon. A fierce trade war is ongoing between the United States and China for the last year, and even discussions were held for many months to find a solution. At the end of last year, the trade war was decided to be suspended for 90 days. After that, negotiations began in April, but President Trump adopted a stiff stand as China was unwilling to accept the conditions. The talks fell through as China refused to give in to the US aggression.

The effects of the trade war between the two nations have slowly begun to appear on the world economy and have delivered a significant blow to the production and trade sectors the world over. Moreover, Japan and other countries have indicated that the issue would be primarily deliberated upon at the G-20 summit.
