Normalisation of Israel and Arab ties increasingly isolating Iran: US Secretary of State

Jerusalem: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that ‘Israel’s agreements on cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain in the past few weeks, have been welcomed from across the globe. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, इराण अधिकच एकटाSecretary of State Mike Pompeo has embarked on his Israel tour. Pompeo held discussions with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as even Bahrain Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani, who is currently also visiting Israel. The US Secretary of State said that Israel’s normalisation deals with UAE and Bahrain had sent a message to Iran.

The US Secretary of State said that the peace deals are waning the influence of malign actors like Iran and the country is becoming ever more isolated. Also, Pompeo warned that if Iran does not change its direction in time, the nation will forever remain in isolation. At the same time, he also announced new sanctions against Iran.

Mike Pompeo and Department of Treasury announced sanctions targeting Mostazafan Foundation, associated with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, and 160 affiliated companies. Apart from that, the US has also sanctioned Iranian intelligence chief Mahmoud Alawi. Besides, if sanctions against Iran were withdrawn, the cooperation established for maintaining peace in the region would be imperilled, and Iran would be advantaged by it, Pompeo said.

The US Secretary of State’s statements are claimed of being in line with the President-elect Joe Biden’s Iran policy. A few weeks ago, Biden had indicated an easing of sanctions against Iran as also participating in the nuclear deal with it. In addition, even Iran had expressed confidence in Biden making a new nuclear deal.

In the meanwhile, reports reveal US Secretary of State Pompeo will be visiting Israel controlled part of Golan Heights. Nevertheless, Palestine has fiercely protested the Pompeo visit.
