Moscow / Kyiv – Russia’s senior military officials claimed that Russia would seize southern and eastern Ukraine and create a land corridor to Crimea province. The Russian official’s claim indicates that the conflict in Ukraine will long for some more months. Ukraine has reacted sharply to the Russian official’s claim. Ukraine has criticised Russia’s statement as part of its imperialist mentality. Meanwhile, Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, has claimed that Russia will suspend its campaign if it is convinced that Ukraine is free of nuclear weapons and is ready to be detached.
Major General Rustam Minnekayev, the acting commander of Russia’s Central Military District, explained the scope of the second phase in Ukraine at an event. ‘The second phase of the special operation is underway… one of the tasks of the Russian army is to take full control of the Donbas region and southern Ukraine. It will provide a land bridge to Crimea,’ he said. He also claimed that once the area was annexed, another easy way could be available to the pro-Russian province of Transnistria in Moldova.
Ukraine has reacted intensely to Major General Rustam Minkeev’s statement. ‘They stopped hiding it. (Russia had) acknowledged that the goal of the ‘second phase’ of the war was not victory over the mythical Nazis but simply the occupation of eastern and southern Ukraine. Imperialism as it is’ criticised by the Ukrainian Defence Ministry. While criticising this, Ukraine has also informed that Russia has launched severe attacks on Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk and the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv.
Meanwhile, Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, reiterated that Russia would never allow Ukraine to become a nuclear-armed and NATO member state. Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said that Russia wants to ensure that Ukraine, located in the eastern part of Europe, never becomes a nuclear weapon and does not become a member of any particular group. Once it is received, Russia will suspend its campaign in Ukraine. This is important for people of Slavic descent living in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Russia could win the war in Ukraine, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said. Speaking at a news conference, Johnson said Russia’s military might was very realistic and that Russia’s chances of winning the war were real.
