West’s weapon supply may augment instability in Ukraine

Moscow/Kyiv – Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that the supply of weapons by western countries to Ukraine is dangerous and will add more to the instability in Ukraine. Putin warned during a conversation with the Presidents of France and Germany. Following Putin, the Russian ambassador to the United States also criticised the weapons supply to Ukraine and warned that this would impact global security.

युक्रेनमधील अस्थैर्यThe western countries had started a large scale supply of weapons to Ukraine following the Russian attack on Ukraine in February. Currently, nearly 27 countries, including the United States and European countries, are believed to supply arms to Ukraine. The US is at the lead here and has provided weapons worth nearly $4 billion to Ukraine over the past four months. These include rifles, rockets, cannons, anti-tank missiles and radars. The US Congress has passed a bill also to continue uninterrupted weapons supplies to Ukraine.

Russia has consistently issued warnings against supplying arms to Ukraine. Russia has launched attacks on foreign-weapon stocks in Ukraine supplied by the western countries. However, Western countries have decided to increase Ukraine’s arms supplies further. Saying that Russia should not win the Russia-Ukraine conflict, westerners have hinted at the continuation of arms supplies as long as the conflict continues.

Against this backdrop, the aggressive stance taken by the Russian President during the conversation with the European leaders becomes noteworthy. Earlier, Russia and the European leaders discussed issues like stopping the conflict and rescuing the civilians. But by bringing up the issue of weapon supplies, the Russian President has openly accused the western countries of being responsible for prolonging the conflict.

Meanwhile, reports have surfaced that the US will supply Ukraine with advanced artillery and rocket systems. Russia has reacted strongly to the report published by the US media. Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, has warned that the US decision would intensify the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Antonov also warned that the possible weapons supply by the US will threaten the peace in Ukraine and will also have serious implications for global security.
