Moscow / Kyiv – Russian forces attacked consistently and drove out the Ukrainian troops in Severodonetsk city, claimed a senior Ukrainian official in Luhansk. Ukrainian officials warned that Ukrainian units would have to withdraw entirely in the forthcoming future and be forced to take refuge in a safe place outside the city. Besides, Russia’s defence forces have claimed that the Ukrainian forces had to bear tremendous losses in the conflict in Donbas.
Last week, a decisive conflict had sparked between Russian and Ukrainian forces for seizing the town of Severodonetsk in Donbas. The Russian forces had launched consistent attacks and had begun pushing back the Ukrainian troops. However, Ukraine’s President and senior officials had claimed to be standing firm in repelling Russian attacks. But the information provided by the Ukrainian governor in Luhansk clarifies that these claims are false. Just 24 hours earlier, Luhansk Governor Sergei Haidai had predicted that Ukrainian troops would have to withdraw from Severodonetsk.
On Wednesday, Governor Haidai acknowledged that Ukrainian forces were pushed out to the areas outside the city’s borders. The Ukrainian army has been fighting to retain control of the outskirts of the town, the governor of Luhansk clarified. Therefore, it is clear that Russia has almost gained control of Severodonetsk. On Tuesday, Russia’s Defence Minister Shoigu declared that Russia had seized 97% of the territory in the province of Luhansk, which is part of the Donbas.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he is ready to talk directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin. If serious consideration is being given to ending the conflict, we are prepared to negotiate with Russian President Putin, Zelensky said. On Tuesday, Ukraine’s President claimed that foreign leaders and media had pressured him to negotiate with Russia.
