Moscow / Kyiv – The struggle between Russia and Ukraine for Severodonetsk, which is considered decisive for the capture of Donbas, has aggravated. In small areas, including roads in Severodonetsk, the two countries’ armies are standing in front of each other, and the situation is changing every hour, informed the sources. However, local officials acknowledged that Ukraine’s military might be unable to survive in the face of Russia’s onslaught and clarified that much of the city had fallen to Russia. Information has surfaced that almost 10,000 citizens were trapped in the town while the conflict occurred.
In the past few days, it has surfaced that senior Russian officials have consistently made aggressive statements about the capture of Severodonetsk and Donbas. The success of the Russian forces in the region is said to be the causative behind this. It has been revealed that Russia deployed troops in Crimea and Mariupol for the campaign in Donbas and has sent some new squads too. Reports have been published, in the media, that a deadline has been given to the Severodonetsk military officer in charge to take control of the city by the end of this week.
Therefore, Russia has put all its strength and has not allowed the intensity of the attack to decrease. For Ukrainian troops, who have previously managed to repel Russian forces in some areas, it has started to come to the fore that the struggle is out of reach. So now, the Ukrainian authorities are putting forward new reasons for the withdrawal. On Thursday, a Ukrainian official tried to blame weapons not received from abroad on time. If Western countries had supplied Ukraine with long-range weapons within time, Severodonetsk would have been under Ukrainian control in two to three days, Luhansk Governor Serhiy Haidai claimed.
Meanwhile, Russian forces have signalled to make their campaign more aggressive and rapid for control of Donbas. For this, Russian units have started advancing from the city of Izyum in Kharkiv, next to Donbas. Russian sources said the operation aimed to capture parts of the region from outside the Donbas border.
Moreover, Russia has also begun targeting foreign weapons stockpiles in Ukraine and the bases of the foreign mercenaries. Russia’s Defence Ministry informed of destroying foreign weapons stockpiles and many military bases in the last few days. Russia’s new campaign is likely to increase the pressure more on Ukraine. Information has emerged that more than 10,000 people have been stranded in the city while the fierce struggle for Severodonetsk continues. Ukrainian officials clarified that it was impossible to rescue the civilians in the current situation.
