Six killed in shooting on US Independence Day  

Washington / Chicago – At least six people have been killed and 36 injured in a shooting at an Independence Day parade in the United States. The incident took place in the Highland Park area of Chicago. The assailant, Robert Crimo III, was a youth aged about 22 years and was detained by security forces after a staggering eight-hour search. US President Joe Biden has expressed deep sorrow over it, describing the incident as extremely shocking. Information has surfaced that two policemen were injured in the violence in Philadelphia following the incident in Chicago.

The shootout began 20 minutes after the parade started from the area near Second Street. The assailant, Robert Crimo, used a large store rooftop to fire. He placed the gun on the terrace and fired indiscriminately at the circulation. The shooting caused a commotion at the parade and turmoil among the participants and those who came to see it.  

The security agencies informed that some were injured in the stampede then. It was told that five people were killed on the spot, and one died on the way to the hospital. The number of people injured in the shooting and stampede has risen to 36, police said. The assailant managed to escape after the shooting. After nearly an eight-hour search campaign, police took the assailant in custody from the highway.  

The assailant, Robert Crimo III, is a singer and musician who had recently released an album called Brainwashed on Spotify. In addition, it has emerged that he has posted pictures and posts on social media supporting Gun Violence and Mass Shooting. Following the shooting event in Chicago, an incidence of shooting has also been reported at night from an Independence Day event organised in Philadelphia. It was informed that two policemen were injured in the incident.

President Biden has expressed severe grief over the Chicago shooting incident. ‘There is much more work to do, and I’m not going to give up fighting the epidemic of gun violence,’ Biden said. This is the third major mass shooting incident in the United States in the last two months. In May, large-scale mass shooting incidents occurred in New York and the province of Texas. At least ten people have been killed in an incident of indiscriminate shooting at a New York City supermarket. Besides, 20 people were killed in a school shooting in Texas province.
