Moscow/Kyiv – Russian forces launched major missile attacks in Odessa and Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine in the wake of Ukrainian counterattacks on Russian bases in Kherson. More than ten missiles were struck in these two provinces. Ukraine reported that missiles of the ‘S-300’ system were used in the Mykolaiv region. While missile attacks continue in southern Ukraine, information has come to light that Russia launched intense airstrikes in the cities of the Donetsk region.
Since the beginning of July, Ukraine had launched a campaign of counterattacks on the Kherson provinces in the southern region. Ukraine had successfully targeted some Russian military bases, command posts, fuel depots and essential bridges. Ukraine had also claimed that Russia had to lose some villages in Kherson. Based on this success, the Ukrainian authorities had warned that the Kherson province seized by Russia would be liberated in the next two months. But Russia has become more aggressive in scattering Ukraine’s intentions, and Tuesday’s missile attacks are considered part of it.
On Tuesday, Russian fighter jets targeted some villages near the Odessa port. Four missiles were said to have been fired in this area. This is the second missile attack on Odessa in the last four days. Besides, eight missiles hit the Mykolaiv region. The Russian Defence Ministry informed that the weapon depots in this area were targeted. It has surfaced that Ukraine has suffered significant losses in this Russian attack.
Furthermore, Russia has also launched major airstrikes in the Donetsk region. The two cities of Bakhmut and Sloviansk are said to have been primarily targeted. Russia has also been claimed to have gained the lead in the area near Bakhmut.
