Ukraine initiated a campaign of retaliatory attacks on the Russian military in the last month. Ukrainian leaders and military officials warned that the campaign would become more intense and comprehensive in view of Wednesday’s Independence Day celebrations. Ukraine achieved a certain amount of success in delivering a few shocks to the Russian forces on the strength of foreign arms stockpiles, technology and information received from intelligence agencies. However, the latest aggressive attacks by Russia show that the success did not last long.  

The Russian forces have succeeded in stopping the rising retaliatory attacks by Ukraine in southern Ukraine. At the same time, the troops are forging ahead in newer territories, Defence Ministry Spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov said. Russia said that the Ukrainian front in Alexandrowka city in the Kherson province had been broken down, and significant losses were inflicted on the Ukrainian military. After that, the Russian forces gained control of villages near the capital of Mykolaiv province near Kherson, along with an area of 12 square kilometres.  

The Russian forces have also taken control of Bakhmut in Donbas and certain areas outside the city of Donetsk in east Ukraine. They took control of some regions in Kharkiv and near Izium city in northeastern Ukraine, the Russian Defence Ministry informed. Sources have claimed that Russia will take control of an important town in the Donbas region in the next few days. According to analysts, the latest Russian attacks will create unrest among the western countries supporting Ukraine.
