Washington – The US think tank report concluded that US citizens no longer have faith in democracy. In a recent survey, 52% of citizens said that the democratic system in the United States is not working correctly. It includes 68% of citizens who are supporters of the Republican Party and 40% who are part of the ruling Democratic Party. More than half of the country’s citizens have lost faith in democracy. This becomes noteworthy against the background of mid-term elections in the United States in the next 18 days.
The world’s leading news organisation, ‘Associated Press’ and the group ‘NORC’ at the University of Chicago recently conducted a comprehensive survey on the issue of democracy in the US. In the survey, growing pessimistic tendencies among US citizens about the democratic and electoral systems, voting and representatives have come to the fore. The report draws attention to the process of political polarisation that has gained momentum in the United States over the past few decades. Furthermore, this polarisation has been seen from presidential to school board elections.
This process, which has been going on for several years, got fuelled in the 2020 presidential election. Due to this, there is despair among US citizens and including the supporters of both parties. Only 25% of citizens are optimistic about the election of public representatives, and 43 % have expressed solid pessimistic feelings. Besides, 31% of citizens showed an inability to express any form of opinion. The report also mentions that the number of pessimistic citizens about the democratic process increases after the 2020 election results.
Joe Biden was declared the winner in the presidential election held two years ago. Rival and former President Donald Trump had alleged massive malpractices during the voting and counting. But the election system, as well as the court, had rejected his objections in this regard. Moreover, Trump and his supporters have still alleged malpractices in the 2020 election, which were frequently mentioned during the campaign.
Tulsi Gabbard, a former member of the US Congress, has created a stir by sharply criticising the current ruling Democrat Party, which is no longer bound to the US people but is bound to the demands of the warmongering elite. After leaving the Democratic Party, Tulsi Gabbard has openly warned that US’s democracy is in danger because of this party. Gabbard put her finger on the duplicity that the US administration, which spends the money of the US taxpayers for the protection of democracy around the world, has made intense preparations to strangle democracy in its own country. What kind of democratic tradition does it fit in to tighten everyone who goes against us in different ways and resorts to illegal means? Gabbard has given sleepless nights to the Biden administration by asking this question. Gabbard has been getting a great response from some news organisations and social media, although the US media has avoided publicising the campaign launched by Gabbard.
It seems that Tulsi Gabbard has confirmed the public sentiment that democracy is failing in the United States, and there is a strong possibility that this will impact US politics in the coming times.
