Moscow/Kyiv: Ukraine claims that Russia has deployed rocket launcher systems at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. For the past few days, discussions have been ongoing on setting up a ‘safety zone’ around this nuclear plant. In their reports, Ukrainian and Western media claimed that Russian military units were preparing to leave the nuclear power plant. Against this background, the new claim made by Ukraine becomes noteworthy. Meanwhile, while justifying the military campaign in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that they should have undertaken this campaign earlier. He is said to have made this remark while reacting to the German Chancellor Merkel’s statement regarding the ‘Minsk Agreement’.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine seems to be intensifying in the last few days. Russia has intensified its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine. At the same time, Russia captured some parts of Donbas while besieging Bakhmut city. On the other hand, despite withdrawing from Kherson city last month, Russian forces continued to attack the town and are said to have destroyed the city’s electricity supply and infrastructure.
Against this background, Ukraine has started efforts to further agitate the international community against Russia by bringing up the issue of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear project again. A few days after the start of the campaign in Ukraine, Russia seized control of the nuclear plant. Since then, Ukraine has tried several times to take over the project, but they have failed. It has also come to light that Ukraine has carried out drone strikes and special commando operations to seize nuclear power plants. But since it is not receiving any success on any front, Ukraine appears to have started bombarding the security of the nuclear project again.
Russian officials said last week that talks were underway to create a safety zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. It was also approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It has also been observed that the number of attacks around the project has decreased. Even so, Ukraine is again trying to raise the issue of a ‘nuclear disaster’.
Two days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the threat of nuclear war was increasing. Besides, he also asserted that Russia would not strike first in such a situation. Despite this statement, Ukraine appears to be bringing up the issue of a ‘nuclear disaster’ again and again.
Meanwhile, while supporting the campaign in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has claimed that the campaign should have been undertaken earlier. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has admitted that the 2014 Minsk agreement was part of a plan to arm Ukraine. Reacting to Merkel’s statement, the Russian President also said that the statement came as a shock for him.
