Moscow/Washington: ‘Russia has caused huge damage to the Ukrainian Army and forced hundreds of thousands of citizens out of the country as refugees. Most of Ukraine is occupied by the Russian Army. The goals of Russia’s mission in Ukraine have been accomplished, and the ruling Russian government should declare so and end the war,’ ‘Wagner Group’ head Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed. The Wagner Group is a private military contract company in Russia, and Prigozhin is recognized as one of the close aides of President Vladimir Putin.
Over the past month, Russia appears to have intensified its attacks in Ukraine. Attacks are constantly ongoing from the Kharkiv province in the north to the port of Odesa in the south of Ukraine. Intense attacks are being launched on Ukrainian cities and military bases with the help of fighter planes, missiles, drones, tanks, artillery guns, and rockets. In cities such as Bakhmut, the Russian military has succeeded in consolidating hold over more than 80 per cent of the land and cornering the Ukrainian Army.
Due to Russia’s aggressive attacks, the counter-offensives planned by Ukraine against Russia are said to have been delayed. Western media and analysts have been making claims about massive losses on both sides, Russia and Ukraine. Due to heavy losses, both sides were said to be not ready for a big attack soon. Against the background, the claim made by Russia’s ‘Wagner Group’ head assumes much importance.
The ‘Wagner Group’ has significantly contributed to the battles in eastern and southern Ukraine. The ‘Wagner Group’ is said to have suffered huge losses during the two conflicts. Therefore, there are indications that the group’s involvement in the Ukraine offensive will decrease in the future. Reports suggest tensions have built up between the ‘Wagner Group’ head, Prigozhin and senior officials of the Russian regime.
Meanwhile, US State Department official Victoria Nuland has stated that Russian funds will be used to reconstruct Ukraine. After the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the US and other Western countries imposed huge economic sanctions on Russia. It also included the decision to freeze more than 300 billion dollars of funds from Russia’s foreign reserves. Ukraine and Poland have demanded that the funds be used for the reconstruction of Ukraine after the conflict.
The demand is receiving support from the US and some European countries, and Nuland’s statement is a part of the same. In an event held last week, she claimed that more than 400 billion dollars were required to revive Ukraine. Russia will also help contribute towards it, said Nuland as she hinted at using Russia’s foreign reserves.
