Washington/Moscow: Russia is winning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and is aware of the situation, claimed former US military officer Colonel Douglas Macgregor. At the same time, Macgregor also pointed out that Ukraine is not in a position to launch a counterattack against Russia and lacks manpower and resources. Macgregor is recognized as an officer who played a key role in the last century’s Gulf War and NATO’s campaigns in Europe. He also served as a senior adviser to the Security of Defense in the Trump administration.
In the past few days, Russia has intensified its attacks in Ukraine. Almost 90 per cent of Bakhmut, an important city in Donbas, has been captured by Russian forces. From Kharkiv in the north of Ukraine to Kherson in the south, there has been continuous shelling in various parts of Ukraine. The ongoing fierce Russian offensive appears to be delaying the planned counter-offensive campaign by Ukraine. Some Ukrainian officials have claimed that counterattacks will begin by the end of this month. However, the Western system and the authorities do not have faith in these claims.
Against this backdrop, the retired US military officer has claimed that Russia is achieving success. Colonel Douglas Macgregor made statements about the Russia-Ukraine conflict in a YouTube program. The former army officer has claimed that the situation in Ukraine is very pathetic, and that the US is pushing them to launch counterattacks. Macgregor also said that Ukraine does not have enough manpower and weapons to make major changes in the state of the conflict. Russian forces are likely to launch new attacks in May and June. The retired military officer warned that the Ukrainian troops should prepare to defend the area where they are retreating. Moreover, Colonel Macgregor also explained that the leaks in the US Defense Department would not have much impact on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Meanwhile, US’s ‘Patriot Missile System’ has entered Ukraine, informed Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov. In October last year, the US agreed to provide Patriot missile systems to Ukraine. After that, this system entered Ukraine through Germany, and the German Foreign Minister confirmed it. Although the Patriot is an effective missile system, it is unlikely to be a ‘game changer’ in the conflict against Russia, analysts have claimed.
Russian media reported that the US-made suicide drone ‘Switchblade’ was used in the Ukrainian attack on Russia’s Belgorod.
