Russian forces launch massive missile & drone attacks on Ukraine’s Kyiv

Moscow/Kyiv: The Russian Spokesman warned that Russia would respond strongly after drone attacks on the Kremlin on Wednesday. Just a few hours later, the Russian forces launched massive missile & drone attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Odesa and Zaporizhzhia. Ukraine has claimed that this was the most intense attack Russia launched on Kyiv’s capital city and surrounding areas in 2023. Meanwhile, Russian media reported drone attacks on two energy projects in southern Russia in the past 12 hours.

massive missile & drone attacksOn Wednesday, the Kremlin, the residence and office of President Vladimir Putin, was attacked by drones in the Russian capital Moscow. Russian leaders and spokesmen have alleged that these drone attacks were part of terrorist attacks and that Ukraine had carried out the attacks on the instructions of the United States. While making this accusation, it was also warned that Russia would respond to this attack anytime and anywhere.

A few hours later, Russian forces targeted Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, along with Odesa and Zaporizhzhia province. Drone attacks are also said to have been reported in Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Suicide drones were used along with missiles in this attack. According to claims by Ukraine and Western organizations and media, Russia fired nearly 40 missiles and drones. Also, Russian media claimed that the weapons factory near the capital Kyiv had been destroyed.

As many as 18 suicide drones were fired at Odessa. Sources claimed that Ukrainian forces shot down some of these drones. Attacks were also launched on Zaporizhzhia with the S-300 missiles. The attacks, which took place in the capital Kyiv and other parts of the country, were the biggest of the new year, Ukrainian officials said. The Ukrainian media also reported that the Russian attacks lasted about three to four hours.

It has come to light that even Ukraine targeted two energy projects in Russia while these attacks were being carried out by Russia. Drone attacks were carried out on oil refineries in southern Russia’s Rostov and Krasnodar. It is said that the fuel tanks caught fire. Over the past few days, Ukraine has consistently targeted energy projects in Russia. Apart from the energy projects, there have also been two incidents which involve Russian railways being targeted. The attacks were likely meant to demoralize the army by targeting infrastructure in Russia.

Meanwhile, the US has rejected Russia’s allegations regarding the drone strike on the Kremlin on Wednesday. John Kirby, a spokesman for the US National Security Council, said the claims made by Russian spokesmen were ludicrous.
