604 killed in Sudan conflict

Khartoum: 604 people have been killed, and more than 7,000 have been injured in the Sudan conflict between Sudan’s Army and paramilitary forces. The United Nations’ World Health Organization-WHO has reported this information. But the death toll is based on information provided by the Sudanese authorities, and local media are warning that the number of casualties is much higher than that. Clashes in the capital, Khartoum, have intensified since talks on a ceasefire in Saudi Arabia fell through. Army fighter jets and paramilitary helicopters are targeting each other’s locations in Khartoum.

Sudan conflictThe conflict between the army chief, General Burhan, who rebelled against the government in Sudan in 2021, and the paramilitary leader, General Dagalo, has intensified. In the last few days, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Nations and the African Union tried to negotiate a ceasefire between the two generals. General Burhan is determined to establish a democratic government in Sudan, but paramilitary chief General Dagalo is not ready for it. General Dagalo has put forth the condition that the process of establishing a democratic government should be postponed for a year.

No group is ready to take the initiative to stop this conflict, and this was observed from the meeting in Saudi. Neither the military nor the paramilitary forces are ready to relinquish control over Sudan. Also, these military officers are claiming that they will be victorious in this conflict in Sudan. At least 50 people were killed in the conflict that erupted in Sudan after the talks fell through in Saudi Arabia two days ago. Therefore, the WHO has claimed that the number of victims in Sudan has reached 604. But the Sudanese authorities are only reporting casualties in the capital Khartoum and major cities. There is no detailed information about the victims of conflict in Darfur and other areas. Looting incidents in some cities have also claimed the lives of civilians. Therefore, the number of victims of the civil war in Sudan is claimed to be higher.

International analysts are claiming that the civil war that has been going on in Sudan for the past four weeks will not end so soon. The media and human rights organizations are complaining that Western countries are not pressuring the military and paramilitary forces to resolve the conflict in Sudan. Nevertheless, if the civil war does not stop in time and the violence here is not stopped, the hunger in Sudan will reach a record level, the World Food Program of the United Nations has warned.

2 to 2.5 million citizens of Sudan may face starvation in the coming months. The United Nations Human Rights Organization has warned that food prices in Sudan will increase by 25 per cent in the next three to six months due to the conflict that erupted on April 15. The organization has also said the conflict has disrupted agriculture in Sudan and is affecting food prices.
