Washington – The US has alleged that Russian fighter jets have again targeted their drones patrolling Syrian airspace for anti-IS operations. The US has also complained about Russian planes flying very dangerously. This month’s Wednesday morning incident is the sixth between the US and Russian air forces. However, Russia has rejected this US allegation. Besides, Russia has alleged that the drone claimed by the US had locked the missile on the Russian aircraft, i.e., the missile was ready to attack. Meanwhile, the Gulf media claims that regional tensions are increasing due to the ongoing military aggression between these two countries.

Moreover, a few hours ago, the United States accused the Russian Sukhoi-34 aircraft of firing flares on their MQ-9 Reaper drone patrolling in Syria. The incident took place in the northern region of Syria on Sunday. The US Air Force alleged that this action of Russia was provocative. The White House made a new allegation against Russia only twenty-four hours later. White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre reported that Russian fighter jets had attacked the Reaper drone again. In addition, Pierre criticised that flying Russian planes near US drones had violated international rules.

Furthermore, the US says Russia’s action in Syria threatens the security of US troops. However, a Syria-based senior Russian military officer said the US allegations against Russia are futile. Additionally, he said that the US and allied air forces had violated the rules in Syria in the last 24 hours. Rear Admiral Oleg Guryanov, the head of the Russian Military stationed in Syria, said the US drones flew dangerously close to Russian aircraft despite the warning. Besides, he added that the US-claimed patrol drone, fitted with missiles, was locked on the Russian fighter aircraft.

Also, Rear Admiral Guryanov explained that pilots defend themselves during times of war using flares after enemy aircraft have fired or locked a missile; so, the Russian aircraft took defensive action after being provoked by a US drone. Guryanov claimed that, thus, Russia had taken responsible action against the careless flying of US aircraft. In addition, Russian officials also have notified that the Russian fighter plane did not show negligence by shooting down the US drone that had locked a missile.

Meanwhile, Gulf analysts claim that the impact of the conflict that began in Ukraine is visible in Syria. In the last few months, the US has increased its deployment in Syria and intensified air patrols. Analysts have also been indicating that it is only after this that the planes and drones of the US and Russia started coming face to face in Syrian airspace, thereby increasing the tension.
