Explosion at Taiwan’s missile depot harbours suspicion

Taipei – A massive explosion at the army’s missile depot in Pingtung County, Taiwan, seriously injured four people. The President of Taiwan has issued orders to investigate the incident. Only a few hours ago, soldiers spying for the Chinese government were arrested. Military analysts have drawn attention to the explosion in Taiwan’s military depot, which occurred after this incident. Besides, a former CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) officer had warned only a few hours before the incident that ‘China plans to hollow out Taiwan from within rather than risk taking direct military action. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has already begun working on it.’

In addition, Chinese spies were providing information about the arms and technology of the Taiwanese armed forces. They had also made preparations to make retired senior officers of the Taiwanese army a part of their conspiracy. However, Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said the plot’s discovery averted a major disaster. It clearly shows that China is scared of our preparations, Taiwan officials claimed. After this, Taiwan’s defence ministry announced to take more severe measures.

A few hours later, at around 10 am on Thursday, a huge explosion occurred in the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) missile facility in Pingtung County, Taiwan. Consequently, four people got seriously injured, and one was claimed to be critical. Local media claimed a major fire broke out due to a chemical explosion. However, the cause of this explosion is unclear, and Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen has ordered an investigation. Military analysts express fear regarding the explosion in Taiwan a few hours after the arrest of Chinese spies.

Furthermore, there have been claims of an increasing possibility of China attacking Taiwan. China has increased military mobilisation and patrolling in the Taiwan Strait for the past few months. Chinese President Xi Jinping has also ordered the Eastern Command to maintain military preparedness. Meanwhile, the Chinese PLA has deployed tanks, cannons and destroyers along the coast near Taiwan. The US has also increased military aid to Taiwan after the rise in threat from China’s attack on Taiwan. With claims of the Vice President of Taiwan visiting the US, military analysts have warned that this may intensify the possibility of an attack on Taiwan.

‘If Taiwan is attacked, the United States and its allies will enter this war. A fierce battle will break out in this region within a few hours, and China will face economic sanctions. China is well aware of that. Therefore, China is avoiding making a direct attack and has begun working on a plan to weaken Taiwan from within,’ former CIA officer David Sauer warned. Sauer claimed that ‘China has prepared to weaken Taiwan on the economic or political forefront. Moreover, the idea behind China’s plan was that it would be easier to annex Taiwan after the removal of the democratic government of President Tsai Ing-wen.’
