Caracas/Washington – Plot to create a rebellion against Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro to oust him has got busted. Nicolas Maduro himself addressed a press conference to inform about the happening and informed that two American soldiers have also been arrested. Although US President Donald Trump has dismissed Maduro’s claims, a company in the United States has created a sensation by claiming that Venezuelan leader Juan Guaido had contracted them to capture Maduro.
On Monday, Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro claimed that the coup plotted by the United States to oust him has failed. Venezuelan agencies also informed that they killed eight mercenaries and arrested thirteen. During the presser, Maduro displayed US passports of the two detained Americans mercenaries and also gave their names as Luke Denman and Airan Berry.
The Venezuelan dictator claimed that the killing of the eight mercenaries and the arrest of the two Americans happened during a Sunday dawn raid conducted by security agencies at the port of La Guaira. Maduro also informed about the seizure of speed boats and arsenal during the operation. He alleged the United States of sponsoring the plot in connivance with Colombia.
However, the United States has dismissed Maduro’s claims. US President Donald Trump has distanced his country entirely from the happenings in Venezuela. The US State Department has termed Maduro’s press briefing as a ‘melodrama’ and has blamed the Cuban intelligence agencies for orchestrating it. Criticizing the claims, the Department of State has called it a tactic to divert attention from the internal problems in Venezuela.
In the meantime, a private security agency in the United States, ‘Silvercorp USA’, has created a sensation by acknowledging the captured mercenaries to be the soldiers from its private army. While informing about the same, the founder of the company, Jordan Goudreau, claimed that Venezuelan leader Juan Guaido had contracted them to capture Maduro. Guaido’s office has, however, denied the claims.
The anarchy-like situation is prevalent in Venezuela for the last couple of years which has forced more than four million Venezuelans to leave the country. The nation’s economy has hit bottom, and the people are stricken with hunger and diseases on a large scale. However, Maduro has managed to maintain his hold over the power with backing from Russia, China and Cuba.
Groups opposed to the dictatorship of Maduro have started a revolution under the leadership of Juan Guaido. He is backed by more than fifty countries of the world, including the United States and the European Union. However, despite support from these nations, Guaido has not been successful at overthrowing the Maduro regime.
By imposing a ‘blockade’ against Maduro, the United States has tried to corner him. At the same time, US President Trump has time and again warned about other options being on the table as well.
