Doha/Tehran/Washington: “We are grateful to Iran for providing weapons and financial support to Hamas in its fight against Israel,” said Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has also called on Islamic countries around the world to provide military and financial assistance to Palestinians in Gaza. Iran launched rocket attacks on Israel through Hamas, pretending to negotiate in Vienna. The Biden administration has been ‘fooled’ in Iran’s move, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said as he launched stinging criticism. 

‘After 11 days of conflict, Hamas won a major victory over Israel. It thwarted Israel’s plan to establish cooperation with Arab countries. We have all seen the support for this struggle from the Arab-Gulf countries and Western countries. This is our biggest victory over Israel, and it will have a deep impact on Israel,’ Hamas head Haniya claimed. 

The Hamas leader, who has sought refuge in Qatar for the past few years, thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for mediating the ceasefire. At the same time, the Hamas leader threatened to continue fighting with Israel until the Al-Aqsa Mosque becomes independent. On the other hand, Haniya openly thanked Iran for supplying rockets to Hamas for conflict with Israel. 

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader and ultimate authority controlling Iran’s political system, welcomed Hamas’s victory over Israel at a meeting on Friday. ‘Islamic countries around the world should sincerely provide military or financial assistance to the Palestinian people or help rebuild Gaza. Islamic people should strongly demand their governments to support the Palestinians,’ Khamenei appealed. 

Former US Secretary of State Pompeo has accused Hamas and said its attacks on Israel were part of Iran’s conspiracy against it. ‘Iran is supplying weapons and money to the Houthi rebels in Yemen and Hamas in Gaza. Therefore, the Biden administration had thought that if the nuclear deal is to be negotiated with Iran, the US cannot take action against the Houthis and Hamas by designating them as terrorists, as it could upset Iran. Iran took full advantage of the situation. The Biden administration’s outlook was that the United States could not take a strong stance against Hamas to achieve negotiations with Iran on the nuclear deal. Iran was fully aware of it and deceived the Biden administration,’ Pompeo condemned.  

‘The Biden administration is under the misconception that peace can be established in the Middle East by pleasing Iran. However, Iran views Israel as the “Little Satan” and the United States as the “Great Satan,”‘ recalled Mike Pompeo, who was also the former CIA chief. Pompeo blamed the Biden administration’s efforts to please Iran as the only reason to have caused the Israeli-Gaza conflict.  

Earlier, former President Trump had also slammed President Biden by saying that Hamas had dared to attack Israel because of his weakness. Furthermore, Trump said, ‘When I was the president, Hamas was worried about the action the US would take if it attacked Israel. That is why Hamas did not attack Israel during that period.’
