Rising discontent in US against Biden after Kabul blasts

Washington: US President Joe Biden has declared that the US will make the IS-Khorasan (IS-K) pay for the twin suicide bombing at Kabul airport in Afghanistan, responsible for the deaths of at least 13 US soldiers. However, Biden also hinted at recognizing the militant group, saying it was now up to the Taliban to stop the IS. It has sparked a wave of outrage against Biden in the United States. Also, US senators and the public are calling for Biden to be impeached. The American citizens have reacted to it, saying that irrespective of how former President Trump is, American soldiers had not been killed in such large numbers during his tenure.

At least 170 people were killed in the suicide bombings outside Kabul International Airport on Thursday night. The casualties include 13 US Marines, while 200 were wounded. Of these, ten are said to be in critical condition. The United States has not suffered so many casualties in the Afghan war in the last ten years. As a result, there is growing discontent among the American citizens against Biden, who has been responsible for the mishandling of the US troop pullout from Afghanistan.

In addition, turning a blind eye to the Taliban’s actions, Biden slammed IS-K late Thursday. President Biden and General McKenzie, the Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), have warned that the threat posed by IS-K had increased since the serial blasts at Kabul airport. At the same time, President Biden and Gen McKenzie also said the US administration was in contact with the Taliban.

The US media has begun levelling allegations against President Biden, saying he is differentiating between “good” and “bad” terrorist organizations. Simultaneously, Biden’s mishandling is blamed for the deaths of US soldiers. The US media and analysts have expressed outrage at Biden, saying he bowed to the Taliban instead of negotiating with it to get an extension to the withdrawal deadline. The US citizens are demanding that Biden resign, accepting responsibility for the mistakes in Afghanistan. Besides, the Republican opposition has said they will run an impeachment trial against Biden. Nevertheless, since the Republican Party does not have a majority in the US Senate, the impeachment motion against Biden is not likely to get the expected support.

Former United States President Donald Trump has expressed his condolences to the families of the American soldiers killed in twin blasts at Kabul airport. It is a tragedy, and if I were president, it would have been prevented,’ Trump said. Former President Trump’s claim is receiving the support of the American people. Furthermore, former United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has called it a sad chapter in American history.

‘The United States has torn itself apart in its counterinsurgent efforts because of its inability to define attainable goals. The United States has lost its strategic focus. How did the United States withdraw from Afghanistan without much warning or consultation with allies or the people most directly involved in 20 years of sacrifice?’ former US Secretary of State and senior diplomat Henry Kissinger asked.
