Covid infections surge rapidly in the US and Europe

Washington/Brussels – A rapid surge of Covid infections is being observed once again in the United States and European countries. Leading health experts in the US express fear that the number of such patients could reach one million every day. Besides, 12 people have lost their lives to the Omicron variant in the United Kingdom. In France, about 60,000 new cases are found in 24 hours; the number of those infected with Omicron has risen to 300. Against this backdrop, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the number of patients with Omicron variant is increasing more than 100% every three days.

Since the beginning of December, the number of Covid patients and deaths in the US has risen by 50%. The average number of patients seen every week has gone up to a quarter of a million. This includes a growing number of patients in both Delta and Omicron variants. Even the statistics of the deaths due to Covid have reached up to nearly 2,000. Against this backdrop, Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has cautioned, expressing severe concern.

‘I know people are tired of this; I’m tired of it too, believe me. But the virus is not tired of us. It has a great old time changing its shape every couple of months, coming up with new variants and figuring out ways to be even more contagious. We cannot afford to let down our guard. Even if it has a somewhat lower risk of severity, we could be having a million cases a day if we’re not really attentive to all of those mitigation strategies’, warned Francis Collins. The total number of Covid patients in the US is more than 5.07 crores and more than 8.06 lakhs people have died.

In addition to the US, other European countries, including the United Kingdom, the intensity of Coronavirus is increasing. More than 82,000 patients were found in the United Kingdom in 24 hours, increasing a staggering 64% over the last week. It has also been reported that 12 people have died in the United Kingdom due to the Omicron variant. Whereas; the number of people infected with Omicron has reached 37,000. Due to the catastrophic situation of the increasing spread of Coronavirus, it has been declared as a ‘major incident’ in the UK capital, London.

While new restrictions are being imposed in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands, the intensity of Coronavirus has also been increasing in leading European countries. About 60,000 patients have been found in France in 24 hours, while the number in Germany has reached close to 30,000. While about 10,000 patients were reported in Belgium and Switzerland, more than 33,000 patients were infected in a single day in Spain. While more than 28,000 patients were detected in Russia, in 24 hours, unvaccinated citizens are dangerous idiots, claimed a Russian spokesman.

Meanwhile, there has been a fifth wave of Coronavirus in Israel due to the growing Omicron patients. Thus, the government has announced that it is imposing significant restrictions on foreign travel.
