Washington / Moscow – Russia has claimed that it has stepped up defence deployments along the border to invade Ukraine. The US and Ukrainian intelligence agencies have made this claim. Besides, satellite photographs of the Russian deployment have also been published. Some Western media have reported that the families of the Russian military have been notified of a nine-month war.
Moreover, US President Joe Biden has stated that President Vladimir Putin has to do something against the backdrop of a large deployment of Russian defence forces, and maybe Russia might make a minor incursion and retreat. ‘If any Russian military forces move across the Ukrainian border, that’s a renewed invasion, and it will be met with a swift, severe, and united response from the United States and our allies. President Biden also knows from long experience that the Russians have an extensive playbook of aggression short of military action, including cyberattacks and paramilitary tactics,’ said spokeswoman Jen Psaki, as she laid out the role of United States. It is being said that the explanation given by Psaki clarifies President Biden’s statement.
While expressing concern over Russia’s moves, US President Biden has said that if Russia invades, it will be one of the most consequential global events after World War II. Russian President Vladimir Putin has taken an aggressive stance by heavily deploying at the Ukraine border, said Biden. He further emphasised that turning back without doing anything would be impossible for Russia because of their stance. Putin will have to do something, and perhaps, Russia may carry out a minor incursion into Ukraine will stop, believes US President Biden.
Biden’s remarks have drawn strong reactions from Ukraine, including in US political circles. A Ukrainian official expressed displeasure that the US President has permitted Putin to enter Ukraine. Republican senators in the US have condemned Biden’s remarks. Meanwhile, it has surfaced that Russia has further increased military deployment near Ukraine’s borders.
The United States and Ukrainian intelligence agencies have reported Russia’s new deployments. Moreover, Russia has moved short-range Iskander missiles, tanks, artillery, armoured vehicles, rocket launchers to bases near the Ukrainian border. It has been disclosed that deployments have been made near the borders of Russia-Belarus and Belarus-Ukraine. Satellite photographs of this deployment have been released. These deployments are for preparing for the exercise with Belarus, Russia claimed. However, Ukrainian officials have warned that Russia could launch an attack on Ukraine behind such an exercise. Just 24 hours ago, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that Russia could launch an attack on Ukraine at any point in the next few days.
