Geneva/ Washington/ Moscow: The US-Russia meeting, which took place in Geneva on Friday, failed to provide a definitive solution. Moreover, US State Secretary Antony Blinken warned that the Russian attempt to attack Ukraine would be countered with a swift and severe response. Simultaneously, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that Russia is not afraid of anyone, not even the United States, and that Moscow will not bow down.  

Over the last few months, Russia has begun fresh and aggressive troops deployment near the Ukrainian region. Following it, the Western countries have also taken an aggresive stand and threatened to impose sanctions against Russia. They have even promised enormous military assistance to Ukraine. Consequently, the Russian President had proposed a ‘security pact’ given such aggressive stance of Western countries. The proposal insisted that Ukraine should not be granted membership in NATO at any cost. However, even though the United States and NATO declined this demand, they agreed to discuss the issue. After that, both the parties had held meetings thrice. But, none of them were fruitful.   

Furthermore, the meeting held in Geneva on Friday is considered the next phase of the same series of discussions. The recent meeting happened between US State Secretary Antony Blinken and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. During the meeting, the United States has assured to give a written commitment, as conveyed by both the parties. As clarified, the United States will hand over the written response to Russia next week. Apart from this, the sources informed that the United States and Russia have agreed to keep the option of political negotiations open in future.  

However, no solution has been found over the issue of tensions at the Ukraine border. The US State Secretary has warned that the United States and its allies would counter Russia if it attacked Ukraine. Besides, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Rybakov has stated that Russia will not give in to anyone’s pressure.   

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has given Ukraine two thousand ‘Anti-tank missile launchers’. Moreover, a few days ago, a British plane carrying ammunition has landed in Ukraine. Apart from this, a team of 30 soldiers, a part of the United Kingdom’s ‘Special Operations Brigade’, was also deployed to Ukraine. Besides, the UK media also reported that the United Kingdom has sent surveillance drones to Ukraine.
