Declaring independence of Donetsk and Luhansk, Russian President deploys 10,000 Peacekeepers in Ukraine

- US and allies announce harsh sanctions on Russia

Moscow – Russia gave an unexpected blow to Ukraine, the United States and other Western countries claiming that Russia is preparing to attack Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Donetsk and Luhansk, part of Ukraine, are recognised as independent countries. The Russian President also announced to send 10,000 peacekeepers to the Russian-dominated region. Following the announcement made by President Putin on Monday night, the US and Western countries started spewing fire on Russia. The US and European countries have prepared to retort against this action by imposing harsh sanctions on Russia.

शांतीसैनिकIn his speech addressed to the people of Russia, Putin made aware of the security-related challenges due to Ukraine posed in front of Russia. Ukraine is trying to be a member of NATO at the behest of Westerners. As soon as NATO gets a chance to establish its base in Ukraine, missiles fired from Ukraine would hit Russia in just a few minutes. Russia cannot tolerate this. Despite repeated attempts, the Ukrainian government has not responded to Russia’s efforts to maintain peace. While saying that this has forced Russia to make the necessary decision for its security, Putin announced regarding Donetsk and Luhansk.

शांतीसैनिकWestern countries have threatened to impose economic sanctions on Russia. In any case, they had already made preparations to impose these sanctions long ago. As Russia’s sovereignty grows stronger, Western sanctions on Russia will increase, bashed President Putin. However, President Putin firmly stated that Russia has every right to take retaliatory measures to ensure its security, and that is precisely what they will do henceforth. Meanwhile, the Russian ambassador issued a stern warning to the Western countries while speaking at the UN Security Council. The ambassador warned to think twice while taking military action against Russia.

Furthermore, the United States has reported a fierce reaction to the Russian President’s announcement. The White House declared that the US would corner Russia by imposing stringent economic sanctions on Russia. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson proceeded with the announcement of sanctions against Russia. Accordingly, the UK has imposed sanctions on three Russian entrepreneurs close to the Russian President and five Russian banks. Whereas Germany has decided to suspend Nord Stream 2 fuel project with Russia. Speaking at the Security Council, the US representative accused Russia of mocking the UN. All countries should take a firm stand against Russia’s boasting, demanded UK and Germany as well, along with the US.

Earlier, Russia had broken off South Ossetia and Abkhazia from Georgia in 2008 by recognising them as independent countries. In 2014, Russia had attacked Ukraine and annexed Crimea. Pro-Russian rebels had also seized parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine had lost control over Donetsk and Luhansk since then. It is said that nearly 10,000 people have been killed in the past seven years in the military action taken by Ukraine. Ukraine had accused the Russian military potency of being behind these rebels.

Despite this, Western countries have not been able to react other than imposing sanctions against Russia. Now, by declaring Donetsk and Luhansk independent countries, Russia seems to have taught Ukraine, which is preparing to accept NATO membership, a lesson once again.

Ukraine preparing to sever diplomatic ties with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has prepared to sever diplomatic ties with Russia. Zelensky announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had made such a recommendation, and soon the decision will be taken in this regard. However, though Russia announced both the parts as independent countries by sending troops to Donetsk and Luhansk, the Ukrainian President exhibited caution in not mentioning it as an invasion. Russia’s action violates Ukraine’s sovereignty, President Zhelensky has said. Zelensky held talks with the heads of state of the United States, France and Germany. However, Ukraine has not yet announced a military response to Russia’s action at the official level. An emergency will be declared if the time comes, said President Zelensky.

Meanwhile, reports are being received of conflicts that have started between the military of Ukraine and pro-Russian rebels in Donetsk and Luhansk. Two Ukrainian soldiers have been killed. This conflict may fester in the future. But for now, Ukraine is seen to display caution. Discussions have begun at the international level, whether the United States would risk declaring war with Russia for Ukraine.
