On Friday early morning, an airstrike was launched on a Russian oil depot in the Russian city of Belgorod, just 40 kilometres from the Russian-Ukrainian border. Russia had claimed that the attack was carried out by Ukrainian MI-24 helicopters. However, Ukraine had avoided providing information for the same. Russia, which has shown displeasure with Ukraine’s stance, appears to have retaliated by launching missile attacks. On Saturday morning, Russia targeted an oil refinery in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk.

The spokesman also claimed that the Russian attack completely devastated a fuel storage system at the Kremenchuk project. Although Russia has been prevented to some extent by the force of arms provided so far, a large number of heavy weapons are needed to repel them, Ukrainian officials say. Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the Ukrainian President, has said that Westerners’ plans to form an ‘Afghanistan‘ in Ukraine and trap Russia will not succeed.

The countries cooperating with us need to understand that the plans to keep Russia in a protracted conflict by making Afghanistan of Ukraine will not succeed, said Podoliak. Russia will withdraw from all Ukraine except eastern and southern Ukraine. Russia will strengthen its position by deploying defence in these two areas, claimed Podoliak.
