Moscow / Kyiv – Russia’s government spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that the supply of weapons to Ukraine and other countries could be the biggest threat to the security of the European continent. Besides, there will be severe consequences if Ukraine launches attacks on Russia on the strength of the weapons supplied by Western countries. The countries concerned should take the warning seriously, the State Department has warned. While Russia is giving warnings, the United Kingdom and NATO have declared that they will maintain Ukraine’s arms supply as long as the war against Russia continues.
It has been more than two months since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began. A few days ago, Russia announced that the second phase of the war had started. In this phase, Russia has targeted east and south Ukraine regions, and in the past few days, the area has been under constant and intense attacks. Russia has succeeded in seizing control of some cities in southern Ukraine, including the Donbas region. While Russia has forged ahead, the weapons supply by the Western countries to Ukraine has grown tremendously. The UK, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and the US are in the lead.
Moreover, the United States has supplied more than $2 billion in arms aid to Ukraine since Russia launched its operation in Ukraine. The UK and Poland have also provided more than $1 billion worth of weapons. Germany has also announced $1 billion in defence assistance. These include missiles, drones, rockets, guns, tanks, armoured vehicles and helicopters. Ukraine has begun launching attacks on Russian territory and resisting the Russian military on the grounds of these weapons.
Russia has strongly reacted to the attacks. Russian President Vladimir Putin had issued a fresh warning to the interfering countries. It had warned that if the Western countries interfered beyond the limits, there would be a lightning-fast response. While affirming the warnings, Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, fired a salvo of criticism on the weapon-assistance supply by the Westerners to Ukraine. Peskov warned that the aid of the weapon being provided to Ukraine is a threat to the security and stability of the European continent. Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry, also issued a stern warning to the Western countries.
Zakharova warned that the Western countries are supplying weapons to Ukraine and are provoking Ukraine to launch attacks on Russia. The Russian Defence Ministry has issued appropriate warnings against such provocations. ‘We do not advise to test our patience further,’ said Zakharova.
Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has said that the conflict in Ukraine could last up to 10 years and that the Western countries should be prepared for it. NATO Chief Jens Stoltenberg also advised that NATO member states should be prepared to supply arms to Ukraine in the long run. At the same time, Stoltenberg claimed that NATO is ready to involve Sweden and Finland as members immediately.
