Moscow / Kyiv – ‘The idea of punishing the country that has the largest nuclear potential is absurd in itself. [Such an action] potentially threatens the existence of mankind,’ warned former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Medvedev also warned that the International Criminal Court (ICC) should refrain from taking action against Russia. While Medvedev was issuing this warning, reports emerged that Russia had launched nuclear drills in regions of Siberia.  

In the last few days, the international community has been trying to raise the issue of Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine. The United States and European countries have taken the initiative to take the case to the International Court of Justice. The United Nations has also claimed that Russia is committing crimes in the Ukraine conflict. The plan is to hand out severe punishment to Russia over this point, and Russia has reacted strongly against it. The statement of former President and Deputy Chairman of the Russian National Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, is a part of this.  

Moreover, the US is trying to sow the seeds of chaos and destruction through the ICC. The former Russian President also accused the United States of being either a daredevil or an idiot. This time Medvedev referred to the wars that the United States waged in various parts of the world after World War II. All countries, from Vietnam to Syria, know the actions of the United States. Dmitry Medvedev criticised the United States, killing over 20 million people in nearly 37 countries.  

While Medvedev criticised, Russia has taken steps to strengthen its nuclear preparedness. Comprehensive nuclear drills have begun in the western part of Siberia since Wednesday. At the beginning of these exercises, Russian forces tested the Yars, a nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missile. The range of this missile is more than 11 thousand kilometres. Just days after launching a military campaign against Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin had ordered Russia’s nuclear forces to remain on alert. After that, Russia conducted three nuclear-armed missile tests.  

Meanwhile, Russian Defence Forces informed that Russia had launched major attacks on Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and Bakhmut, in the Donbas region, on Wednesday and Thursday. Russia claimed to have destroyed two advanced HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) provided by the United States to Ukraine in the attacks. At the same time, the Russian Defence Forces said that a missile attack was launched on Snake Island near Odessa. Besides, Russia has also targeted Kherson in southern Ukraine and Kharkiv in north informed Ukraine.
