Taiwan’s independence means beginning of destructive war

- Chinese Ambassador to UK warns

London – ‘China strongly urges the United States to stop playing the ‘Taiwan card’ and using Taiwan to contain China. It should stop meddling in Taiwan and interfering in China’s internal affairs. The US side and ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces must bear full responsibility for their wrongdoings. The Chinese people will firmly safeguard, at any cost, their national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Taiwan’s independence means war and will lead to a dead end,’ warned China’s ambassador to the UK, Zheng Zeguang. The Chinese ambassador made this threat in an article written in a British daily. Ambassador Zeguang has warned in this article that the UK should not dare to follow the US and cross the ‘red lines’ on the Taiwan issue. On Wednesday, China’s defence minister had also threatened that the ongoing efforts for ‘Taiwan’s Independence’ would end badly.

Taiwan's independence

Two weeks ago, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan. A few days later, a delegation of US representatives entered Taiwan. Before and after these visits, the US had announced defence assistance to Taiwan and cooperation in other areas. Disturbed by this, China has started putting pressure on Taiwan through military exercises and other means. At the same time, China is also threatening countries that support Taiwan. The warning issued by the Chinese ambassador in the UK through the article also seems to be part of it.

The issue of Taiwan has now become a key issue between China and US-UK. Relations between the two countries reached a delicate turn after Pelosi visited Taiwan. Zeguang drew attention in the article that no country should make a mistake on this point. It is only natural for China to respond to provocations by separatist forces in the US and Taiwan. This response is necessary to prevent the US from interfering in China’s internal affairs. The Chinese ambassador also claimed that this would also deter groups advocating Taiwan’s independence. Zeguang also warned that the US should stop using the Taiwan card, fully endorse the ‘One China Policy’, and avoid creating new problems. This time he also reprimanded the UK over the issue of Taiwan.

Taiwan's independence

‘Taiwan is now a touchstone issue for the UK, the US, and for us in China,’ said the Chinese ambassador. He said that only after the UK accepted the Chinese regime’s position on Taiwan was full diplomatic relations established between the two countries. He added that the UK should not ignore it and follow the US. He said promises to assist in Taiwan’s defence and actions constitute irresponsible behaviour. Zeguang stated that if the UK tries to violate the One-China policy and cross the red line on the issue of Taiwan, bilateral cooperation will have severe consequences. The Chinese ambassador warned that the UK should not make any mistake in this regard.

The statement of the leader of the ruling party and foreign minister, Liz Truss, is believed to be the reason behind the warning given to the UK. After the meeting with Pelosi, Truss criticised China’s activities in the area near Taiwan as dangerous for peace and stability. Senior British parliamentarians have hinted at visiting Taiwan. It is clear from the remarks made by ambassador Zeguang that the Chinese rulers have not digested this matter.
