Kyiv/Moscow: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia blowing up the Nova Kakhovka dam and hydropower plant in Kherson province would be as terrifying as dropping a nuclear bomb. Zelensky also accused Russia of planting tunnels in the area near the dam. An intense conflict has been ongoing between the Russian and Ukrainian forces in the Kherson province for the past few days. Russia is claimed to have succeeded in stopping the Ukrainian counterattack. Against this background, the new warning attracts much attention. Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry has informed that there was a phone conversation between the Defence Ministers of Russia and the United States on Friday.   

A few days ago, Russia launched a campaign of aggressive attacks against Ukraine. In this offensive, Russia is carrying out missile and drone attacks on many regions, including the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. Ukraine appears to have become weary due to Russia’s aggression. Also, the electricity and water supply has been disrupted in many regions of Ukraine. On the other hand, it is coming to light that the Russian forces are also succeeding in the Donbas area. Therefore, the Ukrainian army has focused all its attention on Kherson in southern Ukraine and is fighting hard to regain this area.   

However, it seems that the Russian army has become more aggressive after Russia restructured its defence forces and undertook new recruitments. Russia’s Defense Ministry said it has successfully stopped Ukraine’s counterattacks in the Kherson region in the past few days. A failure in its Kherson counteroffensive could be a major setback for Ukraine. Therefore, now Ukraine has started accusing Russian forces of a ‘false flag attack’, and the Ukrainian President’s accusations against Nova Kakhovka are also a part of Ukraine’s strategy. 

Earlier, Ukraine also made several accusations against Russia over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. Nevertheless, it was revealed that there was no truth in these allegations. Now, accusations have been made by the Ukrainian regime regarding the dam in Kherson. Ukraine is now trying to project the image that Russia would blow up this dam with the help of tunnels and create a big flood, and will withdraw from Kherson on its basis. Russia has denied these accusations. On the contrary, Russian officials have said that Ukraine is preparing for attacks in the dam area.  

Meanwhile, there have been reports of discussions between the Defense Ministers of Russia and the United States. On Friday, the Russian Defence Ministry said there was a phone conversation between Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and his US counterpart Lloyd Austin. Russia has claimed that the conflict in Ukraine was also discussed at this time. This is the second time that the defence ministers of Russia and the United States have held talks since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
