Russia may adopt US’s preemptive ‘first strike policy’ when it comes to nuclear attacks

Moscow/Washington: Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that considering the dangers of nuclear war, Russia might use the strategy of first strike attack or preemptive strike strategy just like the United States. In a meeting last week, President Putin sounded alarmed by saying that the threat of nuclear war is steadily increasing and that it would be wrong to deny it. Following that, Putin’s indication about adopting a US-like policy assumes much significance. Therefore, analysts claim the Russian President’s new statement is a ‘strategic message’.

फर्स्ट स्ट्राईकDuring a meeting in Kyrgyzstan, Putin referred to the US policy of ‘preemptive strikes’. ‘For the past several years, the United States has openly mentioned to the world about adopting this policy. Russia has also started thinking about using it. It may be helpful to consider adopting the idea of a strike that disarms enemy nations. They have already adopted this policy for their safety. If our adversary can use a strategy of pre-emptive attack and we don’t, then the use of this strategy in other countries is also a matter of concern,’ President Putin warned.

Russia has the capability to launch attacks per the preemptive strike policy. Putin pointed out that Russia has already deployed hypersonic missiles. President Putin also claimed that the Russian armed forces have missiles much superior to the US cruise missiles. On this occasion, the Russian President also underscored that Russia’s nuclear policy is based on the concept of ‘launch on warning’. Suppose the attack warning system receives a message. In that case, Russia will counterattack with hundreds of missiles simultaneously, and it will be impossible to prevent this attack, Putin sternly warned. The Russian President sent a message highlighting the consequences of the ‘launch on warning’ policy and said, ‘The enemy’s missiles would certainly reach the Russian land, but after that, the enemy will not even have any territory left.’

At a meeting in Russia last week, Putin raised the issue of the risk of nuclear war. “Russia will not be the first to use nuclear weapons under any circumstances. Even if Russia is armed with nuclear weapons, it will not use them to threaten others. Russia is not foolish; we are well aware of what nuclear weapons are. Russia will not display its nuclear weapons to the world,’ President Putin warned. The Russian President also underlined that although Russia has the most advanced and sophisticated nuclear weapons in the world, they have not deployed them across the globe like the United States.

Meanwhile, US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin has warned that Russia is modernizing and expanding its nuclear arsenal. At the same time, Austin also said the Russian president was creating fear by making very irresponsible statements about nuclear weapons in the wake of the Ukraine war.
