Moscow: On Tuesday, in his ‘State of the Union’ address, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to maintain the military offensive in Ukraine and achieve all the objectives. At the same time, US President Joe Biden had claimed in Poland that Russia would not be allowed to win the Ukraine war. Biden’s claim evoked strong reactions from Russia. Former President Dmitry Medvedev warned that if the United States tries to defeat Russia, Russia will use nuclear weapons in its defence. Medvedev also claimed that Russia’s announcement to exit the ‘New Start Treaty’ was a message to the US.
The Russia-Ukraine war will mark one year on Friday, and in view of it, both nations are trading warnings. US President Joe Biden on Monday announced additional arms support for Ukraine on Monday. At the same time, the United States praised Ukraine and assured it that it would continue to provide arms and other support to Ukraine till the end. He also claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s campaign in Ukraine was a failure. President Putin gave a befitting reply to Biden’s meeting and his remarks in a speech on Tuesday.
Putin said the US and western countries initiated the war in Ukraine, and Russia will end it using military force. At the same time, President Putin had also warned that defeating Russia on the battlefield would be impossible. In response, the US president said Russia would not be allowed to win the Ukraine war. Biden’s statement was responded to by the former Russian president.
“If the United States tries to defeat Russia in the Ukraine conflict, it can transform into a World War. If the United States plans to defeat Russia, Russia has the right to use all options to protect itself. Russia can use any weapon, even nuclear weapons,” warned former President Dmitry Medvedev. He also drew attention to Putin’s decision to exit the ‘New Start Treaty’.
‘The US top brass are now aware of the reality. But they will be forced to think about what they have achieved,’ said Medvedev. The former Russian president also made a suggestive statement as he said,’ Russia will also keep an eye on the reaction from armed countries like France and the UK. The ‘New Start Treaty’ is an agreement that limits the number of nuclear weapons deployed in Russia and the United States and their testing.
Russia’s decision to pull out of the treaty before the completion of one year of the Russian-Ukrainian war draws much attention to itself. With the exit from the agreement, Russia is believed to increase the testing and deployment of new nuclear weapons likely. Considering this background, Medvedev’s warning is quite noteworthy.
