Moscow/Kyiv – After the drone attacks on the Russian capital Moscow on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the incident was a sign of conflict returning to Russian territory. Ukraine again attacked the capital of Russia with a drone within 24 hours. This attack occurred at IQ Building, the Russian government office. Russia also accused there were attempts to target Russian warships and merchant ships in the Black Sea region before this attack.
Besides, Ukraine has not achieved much success in the counteroffensive launched two months ago against
Russia. Ukraine has not made much progress besides a few villages and open areas in Bakhmut and Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian officials, leaders and the Western countries supporting Ukraine have accepted this fact. Ukraine seems to be paying more attention to drone attacks to hide this failure. Additionally, it appears to launch such drone attacks continuously since last month.
Moreover, these drone attacks target the capital, Moscow, Crimea and Russian provinces close to the border with
Ukraine. In the past three months, Ukraine has expanded the scope of drone attacks on the capital Moscow, and Tuesday morning’s attack is part of this. International Business Center (MIBC), a building in Moscow’s capital, was attacked at around 3.45 am on Tuesday. The building that targeted the attack houses the offices of Russia’s Trade, Finance, Telecommunications and Industry departments.
Furthermore, the attack is said to have damaged the 21st floor of the building. The two drone strikes on Sunday had also targeted the building. Russia’s Defence Ministry shared information about shooting down two Ukrainian drones and jamming another one. The Defence Ministry also claimed that the drone jammed by Russia deviated from the path and hit the building. Local Russian media has reported that these drone attacks, one after the other, have created an atmosphere of fear among the citizens of the capital Moscow.
Also, Ukraine’s continuous drone attacks on the capital Moscow have become an issue of concern for Russia. Tuesday’s drone strike was the fourth strike on
Moscow since last month. Earlier, on 4 July, the Kubinka military base near Moscow and on 24 July, Russian Defence Ministry buildings were targeted. Despite deploying multi-layered systems and advanced mechanisms for Moscow’s security, the number of attacks has increased. Besides, the Western media has claimed that Ukraine has carried out more than 120 drone attacks in Russia in the seven months from January to July 2023.
In addition, Russia informed about an attempt to attack Russian naval and merchant ships in the Black Sea before Tuesday’s attack on the capital Moscow. The Russian Defence Ministry also said the three sea drones had attacked the merchant ships sailing towards Turkiye in the Black Sea region. Earlier, Russia said it had foiled the attempt to attack these patrol ships, Sergey Kotov and Vasily Bykov.
