Beijing: The Chinese government mouthpiece has warned that “Taiwan is challenging China for war, such that it can never win. The Taiwanese troops will not be able to withstand the onslaught of the Chinese military for long after it enters into the island-nation”. Two days ago, Taiwan’s foreign minister announced that it would defend itself to the very last day in the war against China. The Chinese government mouthpiece’s warning appears to have come in response to Taiwan’s announcement.
Over the past few days, China has taken an aggressive stance against Taiwan, threatening the United States and other countries. Four days ago, the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning and its carrier strike group, comprising a fleet of destroyers, patrolled the Taiwan Strait. Chinese fighter jets also flew over the Taiwanese airspace at the time. After challenging its maritime boundaries and airspace, China announced that it would continue to take similar action.
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu had lashed out at China after its aircraft carrier conducted the patrol. “We are aware that China may soon launch an attack to take over Taiwan. The possibility of the attack has reached alarming levels, according to US officials. If so, Taiwan is ready to face China’s attack. We will fight a war if we need to fight a war, and if we need to defend ourselves to the very last day, then we will defend ourselves to the very last day,” Wu said.
The statement prompted backlash from China. “The exercise China’s Navy completed near the Taiwanese border is not just a warning but a show of strength. Also, since Taiwan is to be unified into China in the near future, this is a practically structured plan. Therefore, whenever the Chinese army sets foot into Taiwan, their troops will not be able to withstand Beijing’s force,” the Chinese mouthpiece warned. Simultaneously, the mouthpiece also criticized Taiwan’s drills staged to counter possible aggression from the Chinese military.
