Russia could attack Ukraine at any point

Kyiv / Moscow – Russia could launch an attack on Ukraine at any time in the next few days, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has warned. Blinken has also claimed that diplomatic talks are also available to Russia to resolve the differences. Secretary of State is currently on a visit to Russia. Besides, he also announced additional defence assistance of $200 million to Ukraine at this time. Two days ago, a bilateral US parliamentary delegation visited Ukraine. Meanwhile, NATO has indicated its readiness to discuss the Ukraine issue with Russia once again.

Moreover, Russia has deployed more than 100,000 troops along Ukraine’s border. It also includes advanced missile systems, tanks and armoured vehicles. It is being claimed that Russia is preparing to invade Ukraine and launch an attack in late January or February. Against this backdrop, efforts are being made by Western countries to increase pressure on Russia. Consequently, the US Secretary of State arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday. Secretary of State Blinken held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. He warned that the chances of invasion from Russia have increased more this time around. Russia could double its military deployment along the Ukraine border and launch an attack on very short notice, Blinken pointed out. The US Secretary of State also claimed that Russia has a path to negotiations open to reduce tensions on the Ukrainian border. He also reiterated of US’s support to Ukraine and announced $200 million in defence assistance.

After the Ukraine tour, the US Secretary of State will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Geneva on Friday. Blinken made it clear that the United States would not make any proposals at the visit. At the same time, he has referred to Russia’s demands as a non-starter.

Furthermore, Russia’s move seems to have gained more momentum after talks between Russia and the West failed in the last few days. Russia’s Foreign Minister Lavrov has warned that Russia will not wait long on the issue of the proposal given to the West. While Russia’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned the invasion of Ukraine was a red line for Russia and that NATO actions will be retaliated in the form of counter-actions.
