Moscow – Russia’s Foreign Ministry alleged that the US is directly involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In an interview given to the British media, a senior intelligence officer of Ukraine stated that the US provides information on where to carry out attacks of HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems). Based on this, Russia accused the US of its direct involvement in the Ukraine conflict. Russian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defence have also released a statement that the US is involved.
Ukraine’s Deputy Chief of Military Intelligence, Vadim Skibitsky, recently gave an interview with the British media. In this interview, he was questioned about the performance of US defence systems. He was asked how the target was selected for the attacks carried out by systems like HIMARS and from which satellites the information is obtained. He avoided giving a direct answer. But the discussion is done with US officials before the attacks, and US officials have a right of refusal, Skibitsky said. An aggressive reaction from Russia erupted after this statement from a senior official of Ukraine’s intelligence service. ‘No other confirmation of the direct involvement of the United States in the hostilities on the territory of Ukraine is required. The supply of weapons is accompanied not only by instructions on its use but in this case; they perform the function of gunners in their purest form,’ State Department Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said. She further said that the US authorities’ distance is not important here. She added that what matters is that they have been guiding the defence forces of Ukraine and assisting in target selection.
The Ministry of Defence of Russia has also released a statement confirming this. ‘All this undeniably proves that Washington, contrary to White House and Pentagon claims, is directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine,’ the Russian Defence Department alleged. Russia added that the Biden administration is responsible for the casualties and missile attacks on civilian areas in Russian-controlled areas of eastern Ukraine.
In the wake of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in 2014, the US had begun to provide large-scale defence assistance to Ukraine. So far, the US is said to have provided more than eight billion dollars in defence aid to Ukraine. President Joe Biden has promised that the United States will supply arms to Ukraine until the conflict against Russia continues. A fund of more than 50 billion dollars has been allocated for this purpose. However, the US was still trying to show that it was not directly involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The statements of the Ukrainian officials seem to have exposed the US in this regard.
