Russia warns against deployment of ‘Patriot’ missiles in Ukraine

Moscow/Kyiv: Russia has warned that if the United States decides to send ‘Patriot’ missiles to Ukraine, it will be dangerous for global security. Russia also warned that Russian armed forces would target ‘Patriot’ systems in Ukraine. Even as it issued the warning, Russia deployed two ‘Yars’ nuclear weapon system at a defence base near the capital Moscow and published its photographs and videos.

In the last few days, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine seems to be intensifying by the day. Russia has carried out massive attacks with missiles, drones, fighter jets, artillery guns, and rockets. Ukraine is also carrying out saboteur attacks in cities on Russian territory, targeting fuel depots and military bases. Russia is carrying out crushing attacks while the power supply system and infrastructure in many cities, including Kyiv, have been largely destroyed. Ukraine’s ruling regime has once again asked the United States and other Western countries for advanced weapons to counter growing Russian aggression.

'Patriot' After a new demand from Ukraine, the United States has indicated that it will supply ‘Patriot’ missiles to the country. The Patriot has a range of over 150 kilometres and is said to have the ability to target missiles and fighter jets. The United States has deployed this missile system at bases in Europe, the Gulf countries, and Japan. The United States used these missiles effectively in the Gulf War in the last century. Against this background, the indications from the US to give this system to Ukraine become significant. Russia reacted strongly to the moves initiated by the United States. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, former President Dmitry Medvedev and the Russian embassy have issued stern warnings. Former President Medvedev has warned that Patriot systems entering Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russian armed forces. Russian spokesman Peskov also said Russian forces would attack the Patriot. Furthermore, the Russian Embassy in the United States warned that the Patriot’s deployment in Ukraine threatens global security. The embassy also pointed out that Ukraine and the western alliance would suffer the terrible and unpredictable consequences of deploying the US missiles.

'Patriot'

Meanwhile, Russia has deployed two ‘Yars’ nuclear missile system at the Kozelsk base near the capital Moscow, while the United States is making moves for the ‘Patriot’. The Russian armed forces have organised an exercise during the ‘Day of Strategic Missile Forces’. Nuclear weapons are said to have been deployed for this purpose. Russia has released photographs and videos of this deployment. Besides, Russian commander Alexey Sokolov claimed that the new deployment of nuclear weapons at the base near capital Moscow was a message to Ukraine and the Western alliance. In the wake of the deployment, retired Russian military officer Andrey Gurulyov has threatened that Russia will launch a nuclear attack on London as the first and final warning to the United States.
