Russian offensive in Ukraine may drastically intensify in 10 days

Kyiv/Moscow: A senior Ukrainian official has claimed that Russian offensive in Ukraine will drastically intensify by launching fresh attacks, including a major attack on Ukraine, in the next ten days. According to the senior official, the Ukrainian government has received information that the entire Donbas province will be taken over, and attacks will be carried out in the western part of Luhansk province and southern Ukraine. A leading UK daily reported the information. Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov has confirmed the news and pointed out that the attack will occur before the West delivers its new weapons to Ukraine.

The Russian military has amassed and deployed a large number of troops in the southern part of Donetsk province. Additional troops have been deployed in Mariupol and nearby areas. Russia plans to seize control of the entire region of Donbas and launch attacks in the western part of Luhansk province. Trained and experienced troops of the Russian Army are likely to lead the new offensive. It could include brigades consisting of marines and air units,” a senior Ukrainian official claimed. UK’s ‘The Financial Times’ has said Russia would achieve its goal by launching intense attacks even before the new weapons announced by the West arrive in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Defence Minister’s statement confirms this report by the UK daily. Defence Minister Reznikov said Russia is preparing for a major offensive soon. The Defence Minister also pointed out that Russia’s attacks will start in February, and Ukraine will not have the new weapons until then. However, Reznikov claimed that Ukraine has enough weapons to counter Russian aggression.

Even as Reznikov makes the statements on Russian aggression, media reports have surfaced that say he will be removed from office as Ukraine’s Defense Minister. The head of Ukrainian Military Intelligence is believed likely to be appointed in his place. Although Reznikov is not directly accused of corruption or fraud, some people in the Defense Ministry have been dismissed on such charges. A detailed inquiry has been launched into it, and a demand has been made to remove Reznikov from his position. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declined to comment on the issue.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was more insistent on this. Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has accused the Western countries of blocking the Russia-Ukraine peace process.

Bennett’s allegations have corroborated Russia’s consistent stand on the issue while they have disproved claims made by Ukraine and the West.
