Even as Russia and Ukraine continue to trade blame over the matter, the targeting of the ammonia gas pipeline in the Kharkiv province NorthEast of Ukraine has come to light. This pipeline was closed after the Russia-Ukraine war began. However, it still has millions of cubic feet of ammonia gas trapped in it. Due to the attack on the pipeline, significant amounts of gas have started coming out. Due to this gas leak, photographs have been released showing the formation of a white cloud cover.

The Togliatti-Odessa pipeline is recognised as one of the world’s longest pipelines of ammonia gas. Starting from the banks of the Volga River in Russia, this pipeline runs up to the port of Odesa in Ukraine. The length of this pipeline is 1,534 miles. During the ‘Grain Deal’ between Russia and Ukraine, Russia demanded to start the export of ammonia. The media has claimed that Russia began to block Ukrainian ships over this issue the last month.

The United Nations and other mediators were preparing to meet Russia’s demand. However, Russia’s plan to export ammonia is in jeopardy due to the attack on the pipeline. Taking note of this, Russian officials have indicated that there is no possibility of extending the term of the ‘Grain Deal’ in the near future. Ukrainian officials have claimed that since the pipeline complex is part of a grey zone, an attack on it is part of the war.

Meanwhile, Ukraine‘s National Security Advisor Oleksiy Danilov has alleged that Russia will target a nuclear plant in Zaporizhzhia after the Nova Khakovka dam attack. Nevertheless, Russia has rejected these allegations and said that Ukrainian forces are carrying out the attacks on the premises of the nuclear plant.
