Kyiv/Moscow: As the Ukrainian government claims success in its counteroffensive, Russia launched intense missile and drone strikes in central Ukraine. The city of Kryvyi Rih, known as the ‘hometown’ of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, was targeted. Even as the conflict continues here, the Russian army has claimed to have foiled the Ukrainian attacks that started in the border region of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia provinces. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron claimed that Ukraine’s counteroffensive might continue for several months.
According to the information released by Ukrainian intelligence, 14 missile and five drone attacks were launched on the city of Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk province since Monday night. At least 11 people have been killed and more than 25 injured in these attacks. Many buildings and infrastructure have also been heavily damaged in these attacks. Furthermore, many people are said to be buried under the debris of the collapsed buildings. As a result, the number of people killed in these attacks is feared to rise. As per local sources, the attack launched this year was the biggest attack ever on the city of Kryvyi Rih.
Along with Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine has said missile attacks could be launched on the capital, Kyiv and Kharkiv province. The power plant in Kharkiv was also targeted. At the same time, Ukraine has claimed to have foiled the missile attacks in the capital Kyiv. For the last one and a half months, Russia has continuously carried out missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and other cities in the past one and a half month.
Russian officials have also indicated maintaining the intensity of these attacks in the future. It is said to be a slap in the face of the Western media and analysts, who have been claiming that Russia’s military capability has decreased due to the continuous attacks.
On Monday, the Ukrainian authorities claimed to have captured four villages in the Donetsk province as part of the counteroffensive. They have also said that a few more villages and areas would be captured in the next 24 hours. However, the Russian army has rejected Ukraine’s claims and has said the situation is quite the contrary. Russian and Ukrainian forces are engaged in a fierce battle near the Mokri Yali River along the areas bordering Donetsk and Zaporizhzhya provinces. Ukrainian military attacks on the region have been repulsed, and Ukraine has not achieved any success recently, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Meanwhile, the counteroffensive launched by Ukraine may continue for several months, French President Emmanuel Macron said. A special meeting of the heads of Germany, Poland and France was held in France on Monday. After this meeting, President Macron said the supply of arms to Ukraine from NATO countries would continue and expressed confidence that Ukraine would achieve success in the counteroffensive. A senior Ukrainian adviser said the counteroffensive would continue until all the lost territory had been recaptured.
Ukraine carries out drone attack on oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar 
Moscow: Reports have surfaced that Ukraine has carried out a drone attack in Krasnodar province, close to the border with Crimea. In this drone attack, a huge fire broke out in the oil refinery located in Krasnodar city, and some people are said to be injured. The Local news channels reported that more than 100 soldiers arrived to douse the fire at the fuel plant. Photos of the fire have also been released on social media.
It is the fourth incident of drone attack by Ukraine in Krasnodar province since last month. The Krasnodar oil refinery is only a few miles away from the private residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Thus, the importance of this attack by Ukraine is considered significant. The media has also taken special note of this attack.
