Iran claims to have forced US warship to change course in Hormuz Strait

Tehran/Manama – The United States has deployed an amphibious aircraft carrier to protect foreign ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The US Navy had announced that the US warship was deployed against the dangerous activities of Iran. However, Iran has claimed to have forced the US warships to change course in the Strait of Hormuz. The Revolutionary Guards of Iran have also released photos and videos related to this. However, the US Department of Defense has rejected Iran’s claim and said there is no truth to it.

US warship, Besides, there has been an increase in Iranian attacks on foreign oil carriers and merchant ships passing through the Persian Gulf to the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. Last month, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards hijacked three foreign vessels. About 20% of the world’s fuel exports pass through the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, analysts had expressed concern that Iran’s continued activities in the described maritime region could affect the export and price of fuel worldwide.

In the next few days, highlighting the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, the US underscored the importance of this region and announced new deployments there. Initially, the Pentagon had announced the deployment of advanced fighter aircraft like F-16 and F-35. Ten days ago, the Pentagon published photos of the US aircraft carrier amphibious warship sailing with its fleet to the Strait of Hormuz via the Red Sea.

As soon as this amphibious warship entered the Strait of Hormuz with 3000 marines, the US urged foreign ships to stay away from Iran’s maritime zone. Meanwhile, on August 17, Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ patrol ships warned the USS Thomas Hudner and two helicopters passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Moreover, Iran had warned it would take action if US warships and helicopters entered the Iranian borders. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards have also released videos and photos of this action, wherein Iranian patrol ships seem to have forced the US warship to change course. Also, Iran claims to have forced a US helicopter to land, of which Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have released a video.

Furthermore, Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries can stabilise and secure the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Thus, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards claimed that the US warship was unnecessary there. Nonetheless, the Pentagon, which is the US Defense Department, rejected the Iranian claim. The Pentagon has said there have been no such incidents in the Strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon has also expressed the possibility of this being part of Iranian propaganda.

Meanwhile, the deployment of US warships and Iran’s actions have raised tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, military analysts warn that even a small conflict between the US and Iranian navies in this maritime region can lead to major global activities.
