Moscow/Kyiv – After capturing the strategic city of Avdiivka in Donetsk province, the Russian army has increased the intensity of attacks. After capturing Avdiivka, a fierce conflict between the Russian and Ukrainian armies started in South Donetsk and Krasny Liman. The Russian Defense Ministry shared the information that Ukraine lost more than 400 soldiers along with a huge stockpile of weapons in the conflict that took place in the last 24 hours.

There is still severe cold weather in Russia and Ukraine, and temperatures are below zero in war zones. There has been heavy snowfall in many areas, along with the spread of mud. Against this background, the armies of both countries are facing obstacles in moving forward. Due to this, the ground war has ceased to a great extent, and now the use of cannons, tanks, rockets, missiles, and drones has risen in attacks. Against this background, Russia has continued offensive attacks to capture important cities of Donetsk and parts of Kharkiv province.

The capture of Avdiivka in Donetsk province is the success of this strategy, and Russia has given clear indications that the same strategy will continue in the future. The fighting in South Donetsk and Krasny Liman confirms this. Ukraine has lost more than 190 soldiers in the last 24 hours during the conflict in South Donetsk. Apart from this, the Russian Defense Ministry has shared the information that Ukraine lost 315 soldiers in the battle in Krasny Liman. Russia has also claimed that the Ukrainian army lost more than one and a half thousand soldiers in the conflict for Avdiivka.

Meanwhile, the conflict in Ukraine has become an issue of Russia’s existence and future, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that it is a matter of life and death for them. Putin has also claimed during an interview with Tass news agency that the activities taking place in Ukraine are very important for Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Ukraine was held back from Avdiivka simply because of inadequate arms supplies from Western countries. Zelensky has also stated that the policy of Western countries has created a temporary shortage of weapons and that this is helpful to Russian President Vladimir Putin. There is discontent in the US, the main country supplying arms to Ukraine, over the issue of defence aid, and the bill related to assisting Ukraine is stuck in the US Congress. Despite this, US President Joe Biden has assured Zelensky and has also indicated that the US will supply arms worth $60 billion.
