Washington/Beijing: The US Department of State has charged five leading Chinese news agencies of being agents of the Communist regime. All these five news outlets operating in the United States will be termed as foreign agents. At the same time, the US State Department instructed China’s state-run media to submit personal information of the employees working in the United States to the Trump Administration.   

The US State Department has served notices to the Chinese news agencies, Xinhua, China Global Television Network (CGTN news channel) China Radio International, China Daily Distribution Corporation and Hai Tian Development. The United States has accused China of implementing its agenda in the United States through the agencies. Also, that they were being misused for the Chinese propaganda.    

The US State Department has levelled allegations that ‘The United States does not want to get involved in any propaganda war. However, the Chinese agencies have declared this war against the United States. As of today, every Chinese outlet operating in the United States is working 100% for the Chinese government.’ The US move will make it necessary for the Chinese media outlets to register with the US Department of Justice as Foreign Missions. In such a scenario, every movement of the media outlets and their journalists will be under the US scanner.   

Chinese President Xi Jinping has taken complete control of China. Along with the Presidentship, the Communist Party and the military are also under his influence. The Chinese media are consistently asserting to the people and the military that they had no other alternative but President Jinping. Given the developments, the US State Department has informed that it had to take the decision to act on the Chinese news agencies.    

China has lashed out on the US action. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang said that the US action against the Chinese media was unacceptable. Shuang alleged that the decision showed the United States was still under the Cold War mentality. Moreover, the United States had taken similar action against Russia’s Pravda news agency during the Cold War days.
