Biden administration announces to supply advanced weapons to Ukraine

- Russia takes serious cognisance

Moscow / Washington – US President Joe Biden had announced he would not supply Ukraine with weapons that could strike Russia. Within just a day of the announcement, the Biden administration announced plans to provide advanced weapons to Ukraine. Around $700 million worth of weapons include the Javelin anti-tank missiles, military vehicles, and helicopters. Russia’s Kremlin has reacted that it does not believe Ukraine’s President Zelensky will not use these weapons against Russia, no matter how many claims the US president makes.

US President Joe Biden has assured that the United States will not encourage Ukraine to launch attacks on Russian territory. President Biden had released an article in the US daily presenting his role. Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, reacted that President Biden’s decision was appropriate. Otherwise, Russia would have decided to destroy locations where the conspiracy to attack their cities would have been hatched. These places are outside the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, had sarcastically remarked Medvedev.

However, after the US President’s clarification, his administration released details of its supply of advanced weapons to Ukraine. These include helicopters, anti-tank Javelin missiles, military vehicles and spare parts for defence equipment. Ukraine will not use US-supplied weapons to launch attacks on Russian territory. Ukrainian President Zelensky had said that they were not interested in that. But Russia is not ready to believe it. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said President Zelensky could not be trusted at all.

Therefore, Russia seems to be taking the supply of weapons to Ukraine from Russia very seriously. Germany has also announced plans to supply an anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine, following the United States. Russia has taken a serious note of this. The Russian news agencies say NATO’s actions could start a third world war. Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Rybkov warned that the supply of weapons from the US to Ukraine could increase Russia’s risk of a direct military confrontation with the US. Russia had earlier warned the US.

After Mariupol, Russian forces have thrust ahead in Ukraine, and the Ukrainian city of Severodonetsk also appears to be coming under the heel of the Russian troops. As Russia prepares to seize other towns, the US and other NATO members have felt an urgent need to supply arms to Ukraine. But Russia has delivered a message that if the Ukrainian military launches attacks inside the Russian border to deter Russian troops, the response will not be limited.
