Kyiv/Moscow – The counteroffensive launched by the Ukrainian army in the Russian-occupied territory has reportedly attained great success. In the past few days, the Ukrainian military has regained control of the southern Kherson province and some cities in Donbas and Kharkiv. Russian military bloggers and insurgents in Donbas reported that Russian forces adopted a defensive stance in some areas of Donbas and Kherson. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also mentioned the success of Ukraine and warned that the next target is Crimea.
Senior Ukrainian officials and leaders had hinted in July that counterattacks against Russia would soon begin. It was revealed that the United States took the initiative for this anti-Russian operation in Ukraine and significantly increased the extent of assistance for it. Advanced weapons and defence systems were provided to the Ukrainian Army by training Ukrainian units at various European bases. At the same time, the US intelligence agency and technology companies are also assisting Ukraine. Therefore, based on this support, Ukraine increased the intensity of its counteroffensive against Russia and is now gaining success.
Pro-Russian rebels in the Russian-controlled Donetsk region, military bloggers in Russia and Ukraine, Russian media, and foreign analysts have reported information on it. Accordingly, Ukraine has recaptured the town of Verbivka in the Kharkiv region of north-eastern Ukraine and is besieging the city of Balakliia. Some villages in the area have also come under Ukrainian control. According to Russian bloggers, a fierce battle is currently going on between the two armies in Balakliia.
The city of Ozerna in Donbas has come under Ukrainian control, and the Ukrainian army has even crossed the River Seversky Donets. Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, said Russia and pro-rebel forces were fighting to keep hold of the city of Kodema in the Donetsk region. In its southern counteroffensive, Ukraine has reported capturing the town of Vysokopylia in Kherson province and two other areas. Also, the Ukrainian Department of Defence said that a fierce conflict has erupted against Russia for control over the city of Kostromka and Bezimenne. While mentioning the Ukrainian forces’ success, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that the flag of victory would soon be raised over Crimea.
Meanwhile, the United States on Thursday announced a new defence aid to Ukraine worth $67.5 million. US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin made the announcement in a meeting held in Germany. The defence aid includes howitzers and anti-tank systems.
