North Korea carries out fourth missile test in seven days

Pyongyang/Seoul: North Korea has once again conducted missile test in the wake of comprehensive military exercises between the United States and South Korea. North Korea is said to have fired a short-range ballistic missile for the tests conducted on Sunday morning. The US and South Korea are said to have carried out military exercises with bomber planes. The United States, South Korea and Japan have reacted to North Korea’s new test and criticized it as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

Since Monday, the US and South Korean military have been engaged in a 10-day military exercise. Both countries have said it is the biggest military exercise in the last five years. However, the North Korean regime has accused the US and South Korean military exercises of being a preparation for attacks on them. Claiming the drills to be a provocation for a nuclear war, North Korea threatened the United States and South Korea with a nuclear attack. At the same time, North Korea has started a series of missile tests in retaliation to the military exercise.

On March 10, North Korea created a stir by testing six ballistic missiles simultaneously. Even after that, North Korea conducted two missile tests successively. However, the details regarding them were not revealed. Last Thursday, the North Korean military tested an intercontinental ballistic missile. Analysts and media claim that the test conducted by North Korea was the most powerful to date. The missile travelled a distance of 1,000 km.

North Korea tested ballistic missiles once again on Sunday after Thursday’s test. South Korea and Japan said the missile, fired from the western part of North Korea, travelled a distance of 800 kilometres. The missile is said to have crashed into the Sea of Japan . After the test, South Korea and Japan warned their defence forces to remain alert. The test was conducted around 11 am.

While the test was underway, the United States and South Korea launched a massive military exercise within the South Korean territory. The US B-1B strategic bombers and F-16 fighter jets participated in the military exercise. According to the South Korean Air Force, F-35A fighter jets performed drills with the United States. The drills between the United States and South Korea will continue till Thursday.

Analysts have warned that the series of tests North Korea is conducting, and the success it has acquired are indicative of the country’s growing capability in missile technology.
