Damascus/Tehran – Iran’s official media reported that Sayyed Razi Mousavi, a senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), was killed in Israeli air strikes in the capital of Syria, Damascus. Iran had appointed Mousavi as a military adviser in Syria. Accordingly, Israel is claimed to have dealt a severe blow to Iran by killing Mousavi. Enraged by this, Iran has now indicated that Israel would have to pay a heavy price for it.
Besides, four people were killed in an airstrike on Monday afternoon in the Sayyidah Zaynab area of the southeast of Damascus. Preliminary information revealed that a senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and three terrorists of Iran-linked organizations based in Syria were involved. Tasnim, a news agency associated with the Iranian government, informed that an Israeli airstrike had killed a senior Iranian commander, Sayyed Razi Mousavi.
Moreover, Mousavi had led the Revolutionary Guards in Syria as an assistant to Iran’s Quds Forces chief, Qassem Soleimani. Mousavi was given the responsibility of building an anti-Israel military coalition in Syria. In such a situation, there are claims that Iran has suffered heavy losses due to Mousavi’s death.
Also, the Iranian Embassy in Syria had taken a backtrack regarding Mousavi. For the past few years, Mousavi was appointed as a senior official of Iran’s Embassy in Damascus. The Iranian Embassy has accused Israel of attacking him on his way home. At the same time, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has threatened to retaliate against this action taken by Israel in Syria.
Nonetheless, Raisi has issued a threat saying, ‘This act is a sign of the Israeli regime’s frustration and weakness in the region for which it will certainly pay the price.’ At the same time, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also warned that Israel would have to face long-term consequences for killing Mousavi. However, the Iranian government has denied the news that Mousavi was leading Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in Syria.
Furthermore, Israel has been continuously carrying out airstrikes in Syria for the last few years. Israel had claimed that it was targeting the interests of Iran, which is supplying weapons to Hezbollah and other terrorist organisations in Syria. Apart from this, Israel had carried out attacks on Iran’s arms stockpiles, military bases and locations of Iran-affiliated terrorist organisations in Syria.
Israel had also intensified the airstrikes in Syria following the massive attacks carried out by the Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip in October. Even before the Iranian passenger plane landed at the Aleppo airport, Israel had carried out airstrikes and destroyed the runway. However, by killing Mousavi, Israel has dealt a big blow to Iran.
Nevertheless, Israel has not yet accepted responsibility for the action taken in Syria. However, Israeli Defense Minister Gallant, while talking to the media on Tuesday, had said they were targeting the opponents of Israel in other countries as well. Earlier, Israel had continued to destroy the Iranian arms stockpiles in Syria along with Hezbollah’s bases and terrorists. Even after the Israeli spies had entered Iran and killed Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Iran had avoided a direct confrontation with Israel.
