Moscow/Kyiv – Russia launched massive missile and drone attacks on Ukraine on Friday morning. A total of 122 missiles and 36 drones were fired. This is the biggest missile and drone attack since Russia attacked Ukraine in February 2022. The attack has killed at least 25 people and injured more than 130 in Ukraine. Besides, some media have claimed that this Russian attack is retaliation for the attack on the Crimean warship.
Moreover, more than 670 days have passed since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and there are claims that Ukraine is on the verge of defeat. The counteroffensive launched by Ukraine in June has also completely failed, and the stockpile of weapons provided by the Western countries is also in a state of exhaustion. Also, Ukraine’s military has suffered heavy casualties during the counteroffensive and has to recruit a new military recruitment to continue the operation next year. Only a few days ago, Russia gave a blow to Ukraine by capturing the city of Marinka in Donetsk.
Following this, Russia has demonstrated its military strength by carrying out massive missile and drone attacks in the capital, Kyiv and other provinces. Additionally, Russia is said to have used ballistic and aeroballistic missiles along with hypersonic missiles to carry out the attacks since Friday morning. It is said to have missiles like Kinzhal hypersonic missiles – KH-22, KH-32, KH-55, KH-59, KH-101, KH-555, S-300, S-400 and Iskander-M.
Apart from this, 36 suicide drones were also used in the attack. The provinces of Lviv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro were also targeted, including the capital Kyiv. In addition, the Ukrainian agencies have claimed to have shot down more than 80 missiles and 27 drones during the attacks. Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defence has shared information about the targeting infrastructure facilities along with military bases in Ukraine. Russia launched more than 100 missile and drone attacks in February this year.
A few days ago, senior Russian parliamentarians had said preparations for the new operation had begun. Before that, the Western media had claimed that Russia had launched a winter offensive against Ukraine. There were also reports of Russia significantly increasing its missile and drone production in the last few months. Against this background, the Russian attack on Friday is noteworthy.
