Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russia is failing

– a NATO official claims

Brussels/Kyiv/Moscow: A ‘counteroffensive’ launched by Ukraine earlier this month has been unsuccessful, a senior NATO official has claimed. At a meeting held last week, NATO officials warned that all aid and support to Ukraine would depend on the outcome of the counteroffensive. UK’s leading newspaper has published a report related to this issue.

On June 4, Ukraine launched a massive campaign of counterattacks against Russia. It has been 25 days since its launch, and yet Ukraine has failed to make much progress beyond a few villages on the Donetsk-Zyporizhzhia border. In the first week of the campaign, Ukraine claimed to capture eight villages. The success achieved at Bakhmut was also attributed to the counterattacks. However, Ukraine has been completely unsuccessful in making further progress.

International analysts and Russian lawmakers and officials have begun to draw attention to this failure. However, the government of Ukraine tried to save its face by saying that the counteroffensive campaign is no Bollywood film and that the Ukrainian army is advancing little by little every day. A few days ago, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Hanna Maliar claimed that the main attack of this campaign would be made later and claimed that Ukraine had readied reserve forces for it. However, it has become clear in the last few days that the US and NATO, which are supporting Ukraine, are not ready to trust these statements.

A senior official of the US Department of Defense expressed displeasure over the Ukraine campaign. The Ukraine campaign is not progressing as expected, the US official said. After this, NATO’s top official, General Christopher Cavoli, claimed that the operation was a failure. ‘Even after a few weeks of the counteroffensive launched by Ukraine, Russia has maintained its lead. Ukraine has still not achieved substantial success,’ General Cavoli said.

After this statement by a senior NATO official, Ukraine stated that it did not have enough weapons to attack Russia. “Right now, Ukraine does not have enough weapons to attack Russian defences. We have a shortage of rockets which have a longer range. Ukraine’s aircraft capabilities are also limited, and because of this, we cannot attack Russia’s supply routes,’ said Mikhail Podolik, adviser to the President of Ukraine. At the same time, the head of the National Security Council of Ukraine, Alexey Danilov, has admitted that it will be difficult to achieve success in this operation due to the strong resistance of the Russian army to Ukraine.
